Tabassum, a shy girl studying in a Baal Shramik School, is approximately 12 years old. She is not aware of her age since that does not matter to her. What matters is her three-year-old sister who tags along with her to school every day. Tabasssum goes to a Bal Shramik school.
A Bal Shramik school is a place where victims of child labour are brought to and educated with a lot of recreational activities. Tabassum was a regular student until two years ago when she suddenly stopped going to school. On enquiring, her teachers found out that her parents had stopped her from attending school.
Her parents wanted Tabassum to stay at home and take care of her younger sister who is now three years old. This was a sad situation more for Tabassum's teachers since Tabassum is good at her studies.
The teachers somehow managed to convince her parents to send Tabassum to school. However, the better part is that she gets her sister along so that both of them are fed at school and her parents don't have to worry about their lunch.
Tabassum is glad that Akshaya Patra provides food to children like her who come from economically weaker sections of the society. The Akshaya Patra mid-day meal programme is one of the significant reasons that students like Tabassum have resumed their studies.
